How To Get Rid Of Computer Viruses

A computer virus could be the end of a wonderful day when in the middle of a computer application, a virus starts eating up your files. Or you slaved all week for a report and when you try to open the file, you can't find it anywhere. In cases like these, what do you do?

The first thing to do is to unplug the modem wires and don't connect to another computer. Just re-plug everything once the virus has been eliminated. Second, look for a virus-scan software in your computer and install updates via the internet. Once installed, you can run the software. If the software can't remove the virus, there is a possibility that it can identify it.

Third, browse the Web for any data about the virus affecting your computer. Just type the name of your virus like Trojan Virus. If the Web gives you specific instructions in getting rid of the virus, follow these instructions carefully. Or you may try downloading and installing programs from the Web that can get rid of the virus. Lastly, you may run another virus scan to see if the virus was totally eliminated.

There are other things you should know about these viruses and what to do as First Aid. To avoid spreading the virus to people in your contact list, find out if the virus is spread through e-mail. If it is, contact these people and tell them to avoid opening attachments and messages from your email address temporarily until the virus has been dealt with.

To find out, open your address book and a new contact which is a phony address. You may try !000 because this is the very first address that will register in your address book and the first address where the virus will send itself. Right there, it will stop sending itself because of the phony address. The best thing to do is to get specific online procedure to get rid of the virus.

If your computer contains many sensitive and personal files that practically mean your life, it would probably be good if you invest in software that virtually removes all kinds of viruses. Because even reformatting can't get rid of all types of virus, it is very important that you get one of these software's.

Knowing these things about computer viruses is imperative. At least, when you encounter one, you will know what to do. Invest in a good virus-scan software that could take care of all sorts of virus. Or you could download good virus scans from the Web anytime for free.

Microsoft Delivers New Climate Change Tools

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, and REDMOND, Wash. – Dec. 14, 2009 – As world leaders gather in Copenhagen to tackle climate change, Microsoft is releasing technology that helps individuals manage their environmental impact.
On December 13 during the United Nations 15th Climate Change Conference (COP15), the European Environmental Agency (EEA) unveiled two new Microsoft-powered applications: the Environmental Atlas of Europe, a digital platform for educating citizens about climate change; and Bend the Trend, an online global program that helps people make pledges to reduce their carbon emissions.
Paul Lloyd Robson, Microsoft’s Environmental Sustainability lead for the Nordic region, said the two applications are perfect examples of a key message Microsoft is delivering at the conference – that the powerful combination of environmental data and technology can educate, inform and empower people to address climate change.

“The governments of the world realize they can’t do it all alone,” Robson said. “They need industry and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and their citizens supporting them because we’re facing such a momentous challenge.”

Microsoft has sent a delegation of issue and technology experts to support COP15, Robson said. That group is participating in a series of briefings, events and partnerships to showcase the power of information technology to help address the daunting global energy and climate challenges the world faces.
Ludo de Bock, senior director of Microsoft’s NATO and EU accounts, noted that an important aspect of addressing climate change involves increasing awareness and access to information about the scope of the problem, and then educating citizens about how they can better manage their environmental footprint.
With that goal in mind, he said, Microsoft partnered with the EEA, the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the European Space Agency (ESA) to create the Environmental Atlas of Europe. The application aims to raise awareness by showcasing stories from eyewitnesses describing their first-hand experiences of climate change and how their communities have responded.

“Hopefully, this generates a personal feeling that something needs to happen,” said de Bock, who manages Microsoft’s relationship with the EEA and drove the current partnerships. “It’s not only politicians and industry that need to do something about this, but everyone.”
For the atlas project, a documentary team crisscrossed Europe to highlight communities that are actively responding to climate change. The site features nine case studies that illustrate the consequences of climate change in different environments. The project points to examples of the way cities and towns have gone about lowering their local emissions. One example is the Danish town of Thisted, where energy consumption is nearly carbon neutral.
Other stories take viewers to areas of severe environmental concern such as Finland’s Lapland region, where the local reindeer population has decreased by 90 percent in some places.
In an announcement about the atlas, Microsoft Chief Environmental Strategist Rob Bernard emphasized how storytelling can help raise environmental awareness. “The atlas stories, told by eyewitnesses across Europe, can help people understand how our world is changing as a result of climate change and – through examples of positive actions taken by governments, communities and people – inspire them to take action and make a difference,” he said. “Our contribution to the project is to help spread the message through technology.”

Microsoft and the EEA had previously teamed up on Eye on Earth, a Windows Azure-powered portal that lets European citizens track environmental data such as air and water quality. The atlas application is also built on top of Windows Azure, with Bing Maps and Microsoft Silverlight providing the interface, said Bing Maps Technology Specialist Johannes Kebeck. “The atlas brings together different types of content in a way that hasn’t been done before. All that multimedia creates awareness not just for the issues, but the things that people can do.”
Jacqueline McGlade, executive director of the EEA, noted that the atlas brings to life the impact climate change is having on real people. “Users can pinpoint and select stories from locations shown on Bing Maps, zoom into the local area, see individuals telling their stories, and explore ways in which environmental change is affecting other parts of that region,” she said.
On Sunday, McGlade and the EEA also unveiled Bend the Trend, an online pledging program that allows people to commit to reducing their environmental impact and then track how they’re doing. The program was built by U.K.-based Infusion using Microsoft technology. The goal is to encourage individuals to reduce their carbon emissions, said Frank McCosker, managing director of Global Strategic Accounts at Microsoft. The Bend the Trend platform enables citizens to commit to simple everyday actions that reduce their environmental impact, such as eating less meat or taking the bus instead of a car. The pledges will then be tracked, monitored and shared on the site.
”Essentially, it’s a way to involve every single citizen with an Internet connection who wants to help,” McCosker said. The Bend the Trend application, along with the Environmental Atlas of Europe, demonstrate how technology can empower citizens in the fight against climate change, he added. “By putting information into the hands of citizens, technology is letting them answer an urgent question: ‘How can you help?’”

Windows Embedded Partner Program Celebrates 10th Anniversary

REDMOND, Wash. — Dec. 10, 2009 — Today, Microsoft Corp. celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its Windows Embedded Partner Program (WEPP) by announcing the next-generation program for participating partners, building on its recent release of Windows 7 technologies to manufacturers of specialized devices with new resources for its global ecosystem. Since the program’s inception, WEPP has grown to more than 650 partners globally, including silicon vendors, independent software vendors, systems integrators, design houses and user experience designers, independent hardware vendors, and training partners in countries such as the U.S., China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the U.K., India, Russia, Germany and France. For its anniversary, WEPP is continuing to address the evolving needs of OEMs and partners working with Windows Embedded platforms to deliver reliable consumer and enterprise devices with rich user experiences and connections to the world of Windows.

“The goal of the Windows Embedded Partner Program is to ensure that OEMs have strong support from our extensive ecosystem to help reduce development time and associated costs as they bring innovative Windows Embedded-based consumer and enterprise devices to market,” said Olivier Fontana, director, partner and regional marketing, Windows Embedded business at Microsoft. “Through the updates to the program, Windows Embedded will better serve its global ecosystem by providing partners with tools and information to help meet the needs of their customers during every phase of the specialized device development life cycle.”
Recently, Microsoft released Windows 7 technologies to OEMs of specialized devices through the Windows Embedded Standard 2011 community technology preview (CTP), release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, and RTMs of the next-generation platforms for Windows Embedded Server and Windows Embedded Enterprise. Microsoft also recently realigned its automotive business within Windows Embedded to capitalize on the synergies between the two business units and leverage the extended, global partner ecosystem of Windows Embedded. The current release of Microsoft Auto (version 4.1) and the next generation of Microsoft Auto, which will be announced in 2010 and is currently code-named “Motegi,” underscore Microsoft’s commitment to the market.
To ensure confidence in these new platforms and technologies, Microsoft will be providing all Windows Embedded and Microsoft Auto partners with extensive training opportunities, ranging from online briefings to hands-on labs. Gold members also will receive a free MSDN Premium subscription, providing simplified access to Microsoft tools and technologies plus Windows Embedded platforms and technologies.
WEPP will continue to help partners stay connected to the global ecosystem through regularly scheduled regional partner summits and briefings, as well as dedicated regional partner marketing managers. Summits and briefings offer partners the opportunity to meet distributors, members of the Windows Embedded product teams and other partners, while regional managers provide support and guidance to help them establish connections in the growing ecosystem. WEPP members also will have the opportunity to collaborate with Windows 7 partners within the Microsoft Partner Network interested in Windows Embedded technologies.
